Refugees are arriving here in the Triangle to begin new lives of peace and hope after fleeing their homelands due to a fear of persecution. They arrive with knowledge, experiences and stories from parts of the world we have only seen in movies and read about in books… and many of them have spent lifetimes preparing international dishes.
This is why Church World Service and Durham Spirits and Co. are proud to present to you “Recipes with Refugees.” The event taps into the culinary skills of refugees and provides our
Durham community the opportunity to learn ethnic recipes while also hearing the stories of individuals arriving from around the world. Refugees host cooking classes, teaching the Durham community not only about international food, but also about international culture as they share their personal journeys.
We are Durham. We love food. We love local. We love diversity.
What’s not to love about increasing the availability of amazing food, inspired from cultures around this diverse planet of ours, brought to us by some of our newest neighbors?
October 25, 6:30-8:30 pm:
Join us in the kitchen for an Arabic dinner of Dolma (stuffed grape leaves), Jajik (cucumber/yogurt salad), Arabic Salad and a rice dish called Koozi.
