Want to meet your newest neighbors and learn about immigrant life in North Carolina? Come to Communi-Tea!
CWS-Durham will be co-hosting Communi-Tea, an interfaith tea event on immigration for Triangle women on Friday April 26, 2013 from 3-5 pm at Duke Memorial United Methodist Church in Durham. The tea will be in the fellowship hall on the back side of the church. At Communi-Tea pairs of local and immigrant women will share the stories of their friendships and how they have worked together to improve their community. Click here for a draft of the program.
In congregations and communities across the United States, women form strong friendships with one another, transcending differences in background, ethnicity, age, and religion. The basic tenants underlying all faiths become a common place for diverse women to discover the special kinship among them and to build stronger, more welcoming communities.By telling their unique stories, women immigrants and the women who welcome them in North Carolina can share their wisdom and help remind lawmakers and the public of the moral imperative for immigration reform that prioritizes family unity and creates a roadmap to citizenship.
Communi-Tea is a chance to tell our stories and make our voices heard! At the tea, you will have a chance to hear about relationships between refugees, immigrants, and local women who are working hard to improve life here in North Carolina AND to share your own story as you enjoy coffee and tea. Senator Kay Hagan and many other community leaders have been invited to this event–this is our chance to show them that Triangle women are invested in immigration issues.
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
Communi-Tea is being sponsored by CWS, Faith in Public Life, NC Council of Churches, Vimala’s Curryblossom Cafe, One World Market, Respite Cafe, NC Immigrant Rights Project, Hispanic/Latino Ministries of the Corridor District, The United Methodist Church NC, MamAfrica Designs, Yarns Etc., and Duke Memorial UMC.
